Over the course of a few weekends in October 2010, about a dozen people from varied ages, genders and backgrounds gathered together to build a healing yurt at the Eco Learning Center in Traverse City, MI. In addition to using woodworking tools, we used brains and brawn, math skills and mad skills, ambition and intuition. We combined pioneering spirits, our sense of adventure while giving homage and due respect to the land and nature. In the end, our efforts were well invested and the yurt was built safely and smoothly. Master Woodcrafter Matt Joppich led the yurt building workshop and Jayne Leatherman-Walker, in addition to pitching in with work, provided delicious lunch, inspiring words and warm hospitality. Mother Nature blessed us with beautiful autumn weather and the Yurt blessed us with wisdom and knowledge. Learn how you can build a yurt in under 8 minutes!
