Such Small Translucent Organisms

Polyodon expert David Thompson, together with Charles N. Planthaber and Carl O. Mohr, on the morning of May 14, 1932, hauled their twenty-foot minnow seine through a section of the Mississippi River at a point two miles below the town of Grand Tower. They were at first keenly disappointed at their meager catch. But they noticed a number of tiny pale and translucent organisms, so small that many of them fell through the one-sixth inch mesh of the seine.
